Self-Compassion
Treat yourself with the kindness you'd offer a friend. The research pioneer explains why it helps more than self-esteem.
Kristin Neff is an associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin and one of the first researchers to study self-compassion. With Christopher Germer she co-developed the Mindful Self-Compassion programme.
Neff defines self-compassion as self-kindness, common humanity and mindfulness, and argues it supports resilience and growth better than self-criticism.
